PURDUE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Boilermakers Head to No. 11 Michigan on Sunday

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's basketball team will look to make it two wins in a row Sunday afternoon at No. 11 Michigan. Tipoff from the Crisler Center is set for 2 p.m. on the Big Ten Network with Lisa Byington and Christy Winters Scott on the broadcast.

The Boilermakers went down to the wire with Wisconsin on Thursday night in a 56-55 win. Fatou Diagne capped off her second straight double, an 11-point, 12-rebound outing, with a walkoff game-winning free throw with 1.1 seconds remaining. Brooke Moore, who led Purdue with 12 points, drained a go-ahead 3-pointer with 36 seconds left to eventually set up Diagne's free throw.


Head coach Sharon Versyp will be on the sidelines for her first game as the newest member of the 300-wins club at Purdue, a list that includes Dave Shondell, Gene Keady and Matt Painter. In her 15th year at her alma mater, Versyp own the all-time wins record and has a quartet of Big Ten Tournament titles. She needs eight Big Ten victories to move into fourth in league history.


NOTES

• Purdue leads the all-time series with Michigan 53-21, with a 22-12 mark on the road.

• The Boilermakers will go for their first ranked win since Jan. 20, 2019, against No. 25 Indiana.

• Fatou Diagne recorded her second straight double-double, going for 11 points and 12 rebounds against Wisconsin on Thursday night. The senior from Senegal has four career double-doubles. Her first two came during the 2020 Big Ten Tournament against Michigan State and Maryland.

• Madison Layden's steal tally climbed up to 23 on the year. Averaging a Big Ten rookie-best 1.9 steals per game, Layden is 11th among freshmen nationally with at least 10 games played.

• Purdue has knocked down at least nine 3-pointers in five games this season, tied with Iowa for the most in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers are 21-4 over the last six seasons when making nine triples.

• Madison Layden and Kayana Traylor have combined to average 6.4 assists per game, while Purdue is assisting on 60% of its made field goals this season, good for fourth in the Big Ten.

• Tamara Farquhar is second on the team and 17th in the Big Ten with 7.1 rebounds per game. The senior has three games with double-digit boards.

• Ra Shaya Kyle posted her fifth game with at least five rebounds, going for seven boards and six points against Wisconsin. The freshman is averaging 5.8 points and 4.2 rebounds with a team-high 55.6% field goal clip in 11.3 minutes per game.

• Karissa McLaughlin is closing in on her 100th start for Purdue. The former Indiana Miss Basketball has made a 3-pointer in 93 career games.

• Brooke Moore posted her first double-digit scoring game since Dec. 20 at Penn State. Purdue is 4-1 when Moore touches double figures.
