WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women's basketball team could not complete the season sweep of Penn State on Sunday afternoon, falling 80-70 to the Lady Lions. The Boilermakers put three players in double figures, but 24 turnovers hindered Purdue's efforts to comeback.
Tamara Farquhar posted an efficient afternoon on the offensive end. In a little over 24 minutes of action, the senior went 7-for-7 from the field and 2-of-2 at the line to post a team-high 16 points. Farquhar also dished out four assists and pulled down three rebounds.
Senior Fatou Diagne posted her fourth straight double-double, finishing with 14 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. Her four-game stretch is tied with Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton and Stacey Lovelace for the second-longest streak in program history. The Senegal international was 7-of-12 from the field and pulled down seven offensive rebounds. Her 18 boards are tied for 14th in program history.
Purdue (6-8, 3-7) shot 44.4% from the field compared to a 42.9% mark for the Lady Lions (6-7, 3-6). The Boilermakers dominated on the glass, totaling a rebound margin of plus-15. Despite the 24 giveaways, Purdue recorded a season-high 23 assists, its highest total since Jan. 26, 2020, against Penn State.
The Boilermakers drained a trio of 3-pointers in the opening 10 minutes to take a 19-9 lead, as seven different players found the scoresheet. Diagne started strong with seven boards, while Purdue dominated the glass with an early 19-7 advantage.
Penn State responded in the second, outscoring the Boilermakers by 10 to set up a 32-32 tie at the break. Purdue's balanced attach had five different players score at least five points in the opening 20 minutes, while overcoming a 30.6% field goal percentage.
Following four straight points from Madison Layden to start the third, Farquhar took over on the offensive end. The senior scored 10 straight points for the Boilermakers to keep pace with a relentless Lady Lion attack.
After Diagne's layup with 3:43 in the third, took advantage of Purdue's offensive miscues to go on an 29-8 run that opened a 19-point chasm.
The Boilermakers hardly gave up as the minutes wound down, finishing the game on a 14-5 run. Brooke Moore and Rokia Doumbia led the charge with four points each, but Purdue only pulled within 10 before the final horn expired.

• The Boilermakers finished the game connecting on six of their final eight field goal attempts.
• Doumbia is the sixth different Boilermaker to tally three steals in a game this season.
