PURDUE MEN’S GOLF: Boilermakers Ready to Start Season in Florida

(PURDUE RELEASE)

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's golf team begins its abbreviated 2021 season when it heads to Florida for the competitive Timuquana Collegiate, hosted by North Florida in Jacksonville. The action will be Purdue's first as a team in over 10 months.

The 11-team field will open play Monday at the 6,859-yard, par-72 Timuquana Country Club. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday, then finish play Tuesday with 18 holes.

The Boilermakers are the only Big Ten team in the field and is joined by six Florida schools as well as national powers Oklahoma State and Notre Dame.

Joe Weiler, Junior / Bloomington, Indiana

Named first-team All-Big Ten and PING All-Midwest Region as a sophomore.

Recorded a 72.05 stroke average last season – good for fourth in school history.

Finished year with five top-20 showings in seven events (4 top-10).

Posted 11 rounds (out of 21) of even-par or better.

His 73.79 career stroke average is 10th in school history.

Nick Dentino, Freshman / Carmel, Indiana

Recorded one of the best freshman seasons in Purdue history.

Set the school record for stroke average by a freshman (73.05).

Led the team with 20 counted rounds (out of 21).

Had a streak of five straight rounds of even-par or better – 9th longest in school history.

Ranked second on the team with 233 pars.

Andrew Farraye, Sophomore / St. Augustine, Florida

Last season, Farraye tied for the team lead in top-20 finishes (5).

Eleven of his 21 rounds were even-par or better.

Led the team in birdies (72).

Had 19th-best stroke average in school history (73.00).

Cole Bradley, Junior / West Lafayette, Indiana

Recorded a 75.24 stroke average including a top-20 finish at the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills (T-7).

Had three rounds of even-par or better.

Ranks 12th on the school's career stroke average list (73.84).

Peyton Snoeberger, Freshman / Williamsport, Indiana

Posted a 75.33 stroke average, including a top-20 showing at the season-opening Island Resort Intercollegiate, placing tied for 18th.

Appeared in every event as a freshman.

Third on the team with 228 pars and posted a season-low round of 69 at the Puerto Rico Classic.

Had a good offseason, most recently finishing T-17 at the First Coast Amateur last weekend.

Herman Sekne, Freshman / Oslo, Norway

Joined Purdue at the semester break after an outstanding career on the European junior circuit.

Competed in The Amateur Championship, reaching match play in Europe's premier amateur event.

Won the Norwegian Golf Federation's International Trophy by four shots this past July.

Finished sixth at the Portuguese International Amateur Championship in 2020.

Finished third at the English Boys' Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship in 2019.

THE COURSE

Timuquana Country Club is a private golf and country club in Jacksonville, Florida. Located in Jacksonville's Ortega neighborhood, it was founded in 1923. Its golf course was originally designed by legend Donald Ross, and members have included PGA Tour professionals Steve Melnyk and David Duval. It has hosted various golf tournaments since its opening, including the 2002 United States Senior Men's Amateur Championship.
