PURDUE MBB: Williams Named Top-10 Finalist for Abdul-Jabbar Award

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue junior Trevion Williams has been named one of 10 finalists for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award, given annually to the nation’s top center, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today.

Williams is one of five Big Ten players named to the list that will be whittled down to five in early March.

Williams is averaging a team-best 15.3 points and 9.6 rebounds for the 11-6 Boilermakers this year. He is one of eight players nationally to average at least 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists and has had 12 straight games where he has recorded at least 10 points and seven rebounds. He is on pace to become just the fifth player in the last 30 years to average at least 16 points, nine rebounds and two assists in Big Ten play.

Williams was tabbed a preseason All-Big Ten selection and was the Big Ten co-Player of the week on Jan. 18, after a pair of double-doubles in wins against Indiana and Penn State.

Williams and his teammates will host No. 21-ranked Minnesota on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET, in Mackey Arena. The game will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
