Know Your Foe

Green Bay is 4-2 in the Horizon League and is riding a four-game winning streak with sweeps over Oakland and Detroit Mercy. The Phoenix are led by Preseason All-Horizon League Second Teamer Caitlyn Hibner, who is averaging 15.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Both are team-high clips. GB beat Drake and lost to North Dakota State twice in their nonconference slate.

The Series

These two teams have a short history, playing just three games, all of which Green Bay has taken. The first game came in 1984 and the other two came in the 2003-04 season. The closest game has been a nine-point contest.

What's Up Shay?

Shayla Sellers had an impressive weekend stat line against Cleveland State to start 2021. In the two-game series, the sophomore had 27 points, nine rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks. Her 15 points on New Year's Day tied her career-high and her five assists in the second game were also a career-high.

Let's Have a Block Party! (Socially Distant of Course)

Shayla Sellers is in the top five in the Horizon League in blocked shots per game at 1.30. Sellers had a season-high four blocks against SIUE, and has had at least one in seven of her 10 games.

Ring the Bell

Sierra Bell is seventh in the Horizon League in free throw attempts and sixth in made free throws. She has 44 attempts and 32 makes on the year.

I'll Take That Basketball, Thank you!

Purdue Fort Wayne is top-30 in the country in steals with 100 this season. This ranks 26th overall and second in the Horizon League. The 'Dons had 18 steals against SIUE and 14 at Evansville.

For Dessert I'd Like an Apple Turnover

Purdue Fort Wayne is 45th in the nation in turnovers forced this season, forcing its opponents to commit 20.10 turnovers per contest. In six of their 10 games, the 'Dons' foes have committed at least 20 turnovers, while nine of 10 have committed at least 15.

Hess of a Marksman

While she doesn't get to the line all that often, Hannah Hess is excellent from the free throw line. In her first three seasons, Hess only missed three attempts for a 92.3 percent clip. This season, her free throw rate is up, as she has taken 23 percent of her career attempts this year. She is still hitting them at a near 70 percent rate.

Now That's a First!

Purdue Fort Wayne freshman Jaida Wolfork recorded double-digit rebounds in her first two games as a Mastodon. Given available game-by-game records, she became the first freshman in program history to grab 10 boards in her first two collegiate contests. She was also the first Mastodon freshman to record 10 rebounds in back-to-back games since two players did it in the 1999-2000 season, but Wolfork is the first to do so in the Division I era.

One of the Bro(menschenkel)s

Amellia Bromenschenkel is now a member of the Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team after enrolling a semester early. After scoring 1,752 points, grabbing 851 rebounds and recording 291 steals in three seasons at Mendota Township High School, she made the decision to forgo her shortened senior season and join the Mastodons in Fort Wayne. She was only 350 points away from breaking the school record, but had already broken the rebounds and steals record.

That's a Long Name!

Amellia Bromenschenkel has the longest name in the Horizon League with 21 letters in her name. That's it. That's the game note.

Last Time Out

The Mastodons fell in a pair of games at Milwaukee, which is leading the Horizon League with an 8-0 record.

Coming Up

The Mastodons will hit the road for a pair of games at Oakland on January 22 and 23. Purdue Fort Wayne returns home for the following weekend with a pair of games against Detroit Mercy.
