Know Your Foe

Wright State is 9-5, 9-3 in Horizon League play. The Raiders are currently on a two-game losing skid after dropping a pair at Robert Morris. Angel Baker is leading Wright State with 13.1 points and 3.4 assists per game. Tyler Frierson is grabbing 8.6 rebounds per game. She is leading the league in offensive boards with 4.3.

The Series

Wright State and the Mastodons have never won at each other's facilities. The 'Dons are 5-0 at home and Wright State is 8-0 in Dayton. The last time the Raiders played in the Gates Sports Center was 2009, when the 'Dons won 83-67.

How Was Oakland's Shooting? Not Great Bob!

In Purdue Fort Wayne's second game against Oakland, the Mastodons held the Golden Grizzlies without a 3-pointer, forcing OU to go 0 for 10 from beyond the arc. This was the worst shooting performance by an opponent since Illinois went 0 for 21 against the 'Dons in 2014. This was the second time a team under Niecee Nelson has kept an opponent scoreless from 3-point range, the first team was the North Dakota Fighting Hawks in 2018, who went 0 for 7.

Let's Have a Block Party! (Socially Distant of Course)

Shayla Sellers is second in the Horizon League in blocked shots with 18 this season. She is also fourth in the League with 1.17 per game. Sellers had a season-high four blocks against SIUE, and has had at least one in 10 games.

She Takes 'em and Makes 'em

Hannah Hess is third in the Horizon League in 3-point field goals taken and sixth in 3-point field goals made with 1.83 per game. She made three against Green Bay on January 15 and a season-high four against SIUE and at Evansville in the first two games of the season.

I'll Take That Basketball, Thank you!

Purdue Fort Wayne is top-40 in the country in steals with 125 this season. This ranks 36th overall and first in the Horizon League. The Mastodons have recorded double-digit steals in six games this season. The 'Dons had 18 steals against SIUE and 14 at Evansville.

Ring the Bell

Sierra Bell had a career-high 21 points on January 16 against Green Bay, which surpassed her previous high as a Mastodon of 16 points, which came earlier this year at Evansville. She used a 7 of 16 shooting day with 4 of 11 from deep for her 21 points, while also recording four rebounds, three assists and a steal.

What's Up Shay?

Shayla Sellers had an impressive weekend stat line against Cleveland State to start 2021. In the two-game series, the sophomore had 27 points, nine rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks. Her 15 points on New Year's Day tied her career-high and her five assists in the second game were also a career-high.

Swipe, Swipe, Swipe it, Swipe

Shayla Sellers had five steals against Green Bay on January 15, which was the most for any Mastodon since she had eight herself on November 24, 2019.

Now That's a First!

Purdue Fort Wayne freshman Jaida Wolfork recorded double-digit rebounds in her first two games as a Mastodon. Given available game-by-game records, she became the first freshman in program history to grab 10 boards in her first two collegiate contests. She was also the first Mastodon freshman to record 10 rebounds in back-to-back games since two players did it in the 1999-2000 season, but Wolfork is the first to do so in the Division I era.

One of the Bro(menschenkel)s

Amellia Bromenschenkel is now a member of the Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball team after enrolling a semester early. After scoring 1,752 points, grabbing 851 rebounds and recording 291 steals in three seasons at Mendota Township High School, she made the decision to forgo her shortened senior season and join the Mastodons in Fort Wayne. She was only 350 points away from breaking the school record, but had already broken the rebounds and steals record.

Last Time Out

Purdue Fort Wayne dropped a pair of closely contested games at Oakland. The 'Dons led at halftime in both contests, and the end of the third quarter in the second game.

Coming Up

Purdue Fort Wayne's next opponent will be Youngstown State, which will host the Mastodons on February 5 and 6. The Penguins are 5-3 in Horizon League play.
