(MARIAN RELEASE)
Goshen, Ind. - The Marian women's basketball team put on their rally caps Monday afternoon, rallying back from a three-point deficit to begin the fourth quarter to defeat Goshen College 76-64. Marian received a season-high scoring outbreak from Tamia Perryman for the third straight game, with the team closing the game on a 14-3 run over the final six minutes. Marian moves to 12-4 overall this season following the win, remaining perfect in the Crossroads League with a 6-0 record.
The Knights got off to strong start, opening the game on a 9-5 spurt, getting baskets from three different players. Baskets from Abby Downard and Macy Willoughby helped Marian extend their lead to 13-9 mid-way through the quarter, but the Maple Leafs responded quick with a pair of three pointers, taking a 15-13 lead. Goshen continued to let it fly from deep as Mariah Roe made it a 9-0 run, forcing Marian to call a timeout with 3:13 to play in the quarter. The Maple Leafs pushed their run to 12-3 following a Sadre'a Rougeau jumper, but putback from Shanyce Makuei helped the Knights fizzle out the run.
Goshen led 24-20 after the first quarter, and continued to hold their lead through the first three minutes of the second quarter, until back-to-back baskets from Tamia Perryman and Kinnidy Garrard pushed Marian in front 27-26. Marian held their narrow lead for over two minutes as the two teams went into an offensive cold spell, with Goshen breaking the drought with a TaNiece Chapman jumper. The Chapman bucket allowed Goshen to increase their lead to four, but Marian was able to erase the margin and go on top 33-32 thanks to six combined points from Garrard and Perryman. The Maple Leafs finished off the second quarter scoring with four points in the final 86 seconds, giving the home team a 36-33 lead at intermission.
Marian was unable to get over the hump in the second half, as Goshen maintained the lead for the first three minutes of the half. Perryman and Imani Guy helped bring the Knights back to a stalemate at the 7:12 mark, with Perryman giving Marian the lead following an block from Guy. Marian's 45-43 lead was short-lived following a Goshen timeout, but a three from Willoughby with 5:20 remaining pushed Marian back in front as the senior netted her 11th point of the game. Scores from Makuei and Ella Collier helped Marian extend their lead to six at 53-47, but the Maple Leafs continued to find a consistent flow on the offensive end, finishing the third quarter on a 9-0 run to lead 56-53.
The back and forth scoring continued to begin the fourth quarter, as a five-point swing from Makuei and Collier was short-lived, as Rougeau put Goshen in the lead at 59-58. The lead would be the last of the game for Goshen, as Marian's offense took over in the closing 7:25. Marian ended the game on a 17-5 run in the final seven minutes, which included a 14-3 run in the final six minutes. Makuei, Guy, and Collier fueled the late run, as Marian executed on both the offensive and defensive ends to clinch their sixth Crossroads League win of the year, taking the game 76-64.
Perryman scored a season-high 15 points, dropping a new personal best in the third straight game, doing so on a 7-for-10 shooting performance in 25 minutes off the bench. Willoughby scored 11 points for Marian in the win, while Collier scored 12 points going 4-for-5 from the field. Guy had nine points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Garrard and Downard each scored eight.
