INDIANAPOLIS WBB: Greyhounds Drop OT Contest Versus UIS

(U OF I RELEASE)

INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy women's basketball team (5-8, 5-8 GLVC) welcomed Illinois Springfield (6-6, 6-6) for a home contest on Thursday night, providing an overtime thriller. The Prairie Stars were able to make a fourth-quarter surge and force overtime before overcoming the Greyhounds, 69-63, in the extra period.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Greyhounds earned a 29-23 halftime lead, holding the Prairie Stars to just 31-percent shooting in the process. The Hounds were able to maintain their composure in their boxing out to go along with their defensive performance, out-rebounding Illinois Springfield, 23-12. Lauren With was the Greyhounds' top rebounder in the half, grabbing six defensive boards. UIndy was also boosted by hitting three 3-pointers in the second quarter alone, with Sadie Hill hitting two of those within the final minute of the half.

The Greyhounds had one of their best shooting performances in the third quarter, but the tide still managed to turn toward the Stars' favor. The Hounds were outscored by two points in the third despite shooting nearly 62 percent, and later made just two baskets in 13 attempts in the fourth. The Hounds committed eight fouls in the quarter alone, helping UIS claim its first lead of the game with 4:25 left in the contest. After Liz Alsot tied the game at 53-all with a layup with 24 second left, UIndy got the defensive stop it needed to force the game into overtime.

The extra time was controlled by UIS, as Lauren Ladowski hit 10 free throws and scored 12 points down the stretch. The Greyhounds would turn the ball over four times in the final five minutes, while Ladowski's total of 21 points helped put the game outside of UIndy's reach.

- UIndy's +14 rebound margin in the game tied the highest margin this season.

- The Greyhounds held the lead for almost 78 percent of the game, equating to almost 35 minutes of action.

- The Hounds gave up 28 points off the turnovers, giving the ball away 25 times.
