INDIANAPOLIS MBB: Men’s Basketball Downs UIS, Wins Third Straight

(U OF I RELEASE)

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's basketball team (4-8, 4-8 GLVC) continued its winning ways Thursday night, besting Illinois Springfield, 55-43, at Nicoson Hall. In pulling off the season sweep of the Prairie Stars, the Greyhounds earned their third straight win and their fourth in the last five games. INS & OUTS UIndy imposed its will on the Stars defensively, holding the visitors to a paltry 29-percent from the field. In the final 15 minutes of the first half specifically, UIS hit just 2 of 18 shots before going on to set the lowest point total by a UIndy conference opponent in 15 years. A slow start plagued both teams, but the Hounds got in going in the second half, shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor to keep the Stars from shining. In fact, less one tie early in the second half, UIndy maintained a lead for the final 28-plus minutes of action. INSIDE THE BOX -UIS's point total marked the lowest scoring output for a UIndy opponent since IU Northwest managed just 39 points in December of 2013, and the lowest by a conference foe since Missouri S&T scored only 40 back in February of 2006. -Senior Dee Montgomery led the Greyhounds with 16 points, all coming in the second half. -Sophomore Kendrick Tchoua notched his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 boards. -Senior Cory Miller Jr. racked up 14 points, five rebounds and six assists, while redshirt-feshman Jesse Bingham went for 12 and six. -6-11 freshman Julian Steinfeld made his first career start tonight.
