INDIANA STATE TRACK: Sycamore Men and Women Earn Dominant Victories at Sycamore Team Challenge

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – For the second-consecutive weekend, the Indiana State men's and women's track & field teams both earned dominant victories at their home Indoor Track & Field Facility.

Indiana State's men earned a combined 207 points and defeated Southeast Missouri State (77), Miami (OH) (76), Purdue Fort Wayne (41) and Bradley (32). The Indiana State women tallied 206 points and overtook Miami (OH) (78), Bradley (74), Southeast Missouri State (62) and Purdue Fort Wayne (57).

The first victory on the oval for the Indiana State men came from Matthew Lewis-Banks in the 60-meter hurdles finale. The junior crossed the line with a time of 8.39 to solidify the win for the Trees.

Scoring totals began to skyrocket for the men in the 60-meter dash as five Sycamores placed in the top-eight. JaVaughn Moore was the victor with a time of 6.79, just .03 off of the facility record and was followed by Noah Malone in second at 6.91. Jarel Shaw placed fourth at 6.94, Blayne Harrington ended at sixth with a time of 7.06 and Mike Adams Jr. placed seventh at 7.13.

Six Sycamore were in scoring position in the 200-meter dash, led by a facility record effort from JaVaughn Moore who tallied his second win of the day with a time of 21.88. He was followed by Tahj Johnson in second at 22.74 and Matthew Lewis-Banks in third at 22.81.

In a shortened 400-meter dash field, two Trees battled for the Sycamore Team Challenge title. Will Smith ultimately outlasted his teammate, Ben Shepard, ending with a time of 50.47 to Shepard's 50.64.

It was a one-two finish for the Sycamore men in the 800-meter run. Senior Cale Kilian put the pedal down to cross the line in first with a time of 1:54.78. He was followed closely by Leroy Russell in second at 1:55.44.

Indiana State also earned an oval victory in the 4X400-meter relay as the team composed of Shaw, Shepard, Smith and Johnson finished in first with a time of 3:22.61.

The final event of the meet saw the ISU distance medley relay squad of Mitchell Hopf, Caine Wilson, Leroy Russell and Cale Kilian take home a victory with a time of 10:43.15.

A two-year old facility record fell in the men's long jump, as Dearis Herron broke his old record on Saturday. The senior used his final jump of the competition to increase his Missouri Valley Conference to 7.28m (23-10.75). Frankie Young III took silver with a mark of 6.93m (22-09.00) while Mitch Conard and Bryan Keubeng took third and fourth with jumps of 6.78m (22-03.00) and 6.72m (22-00.75), respectively.

On the field for the men, Kevin Krutsch got the winning started for the Blue & White. Krutsch earned a victory with a clearance of 2.00m (6-06.75) and was followed by Nathan Kiger who claimed third, getting over the bar at 1.95m (6-04.75).

Freshman Noah Bolt also took home a win in the field for the ISU men, ending atop the standings in the weight throw. On his final throw of the contest, Bolt recorded a toss of 16.69m (54-09.25) earn the victory.

In the final jumping event, Emmanuel Odubanjo completed the clean sweep for the Sycamores, winning the triple jump behind a jump of 14.28m (46-10.25).

Youth continued to play a factor for the Sycamores on the women's side. In her first collegiate meet, freshman Zoe Sullivan won the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.86 after clocking 9.32 in prelims.

The Trees kept the pressure up immediately following the 60-meter hurdles, as Mirlege Castor led the pack across the finish line in the 60-meter dash in her first meet for the Sycamores. Castor recorded a time of 7.65 to with the event and she was directly followed by Reynei Wallace in second who ended at 7.82.

Iyanla Hunter made it three-straight wins on the track for the Sycamore women, claiming the crown in the 400-meter dash at 58.18 and Rebecca Odusola followed close behind in second with a time of 59.01.

The final events of the track for the women featured an Indiana State win as the 4X400-meter relay team of Sullivan, Hunter, Ayana Parchman and Wallace placed first with a time of 4:01.41. The women's distance medley relay squad of Sydney Partyka, Sierra Long, Odusola and Morgan Dyer followed with a victory of their own and time of 12:33.36.

After tying the facility record in the women's pole vault last weekend, freshman Selene Weaver broke the facility record on Saturday with a personal-best vault of 3.69m (12-01.25) to claim victory in the event. She remains at second in the Missouri Valley Conference. Weaver's teammate, Taylor Pierce, placed second in the event right behind her with a mark of 3.59m (11-09.25).

The Sycamore women were dominant in the shot put at the Sycamore team challenge, claiming spots one through four in the event. Jayla Bynum was the victor with a toss of 14.41m (47-03.50) and was followed by Lauren England at 13.85m (45-05.25), Brittnee James at 13.26m (43-06.00) and Hannah Redlin at 12.92m (42-04.75).

Securing the sweep on the men's and women's sides in the high jump, Kelsey Bowlds earned her first win of the season behind a clearance of 1.65m (5-05.00).

Elsewhere in the field, it was a one-two finish for the women in the triple jump. Freshman Ryann Porter finished first with a jump of 11.41m (37-05.25) while Dominique Wood took second at 11.30m (37-01.00).

Indiana State will be back in action when they travel to Allendale, Mich., for the Grand Valley State Open on Feb. 6.
