INDIANA STATE TRACK: Indiana State Ready to Host Sycamore Team Challenge this Weekend

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State track & field will stay home for the second-consecutive weekend as they prepare to host the Sycamore Team Challenge, sponsored by Gill Athletics, on Friday and Saturday.

Events will begin at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, Jan. 29 with the pentathlon. Action on Saturday is slated to start at 1:30 p.m. with the women's pole vault.

WEEK TWO

After a season-opening victory at the John Gartland Invitational, Indiana State stays at home to host the Sycamore Team Challenge on Friday and Saturday. ISU will be competing against Bradley, Miami (OH), Purdue Fort Wayne and Southeast Missouri State.

LAST TIME OUT

The Sycamores began the 2021 indoor track & field campaign with a victory from both the men and women at the John Gartland Invitational. The men posted 214 points to defeat Eastern Illinois (78), Marian (64) and Evansville (19). The women tallied 168 points and overtook Marian (81), Eastern Illinois (67), Northern Kentucky (47) and Evansville (28).

FLYING HIGH

Indiana State's men's high jumpers began their season in a big way at the John Gartland Invitational. Nick Schutlz and Kevin Krutsch both cleared a bar of 2.11m (6-11.00) to finish one-two in the event. Their clearance is a personal-best for both athletes and puts the atop the Missouri Valley Conference standings.

CAREER-OPENING RECORD

In the pole vault for the Sycamore women, freshman Selene Weaver had an impressive start to her collegiate career. Weaver claimed victory in the women's pole vault with a clearance of 3.67m (12-00.50) which tied the Indoor Track & Field Facility record and John Gartland Invite record.

CHAMPIONSHIP MINDSET

Indiana State returns two of their three individual champions from the 2020 MVC Indoor Championships. Matthew Lewis-Banks captured his first career- 60-meter hurdle title after clocking a time of 7.96 in finals of the event. JaVaughn Moore also earned his first MVC title, capturing the 60-meter dash championship with the second-best time in school history of 6.71. He also earned All-MVC honors behind a 21.57 performance in the 200-meter dash where he placed second.
