BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Men's Golf team announced its 2021 schedule on Tuesday, including seven regular season events and highlighted by the team's competitive debut at The Pfau Course.
"First of all, we can't wait to start our spring 2021 tournament schedule," said head coach Mike Mayer. "It's been nearly a year since we've been able to compete and we have been diligently preparing for our return to collegiate golf. Our schedule Includes strong competition against teams in the Big Ten and around the country at great venues which will give us the opportunity to compete at the highest level."
Indiana will open the season in the annual Big Ten Match Play event in Hammock Beach, Fla. Feb. 5-6. The teams will compete on the Ocean Course at Hammock Beach Golf Course, marking the seventh straight season the event has been played at Hammock Beach.
IU heads to Mobile, Ala. the following weekend for the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate at RTJ Magnolia Grove Feb. 14-16.
The Hoosiers return to action March 8-9 in the Spartan Collegiate in Sea Island, Ga. before heading to Myrtle Beach, S.C. the following weekend for the General Hackler Championship.
IU plays host to the Hoosier Invitational at The Pfau Course April 3-4, marking the first official tournament at the new highly-touted facility. The Pfau Course opened in June was named the third-best new course in the country by Golf Digest and the fourth best collegiate course by Golfweek.
"We are thrilled to be able to host the first collegiate golf tournament ever at The Pfau Course in early April as we continue to showcase our new course to the world," said Mayer. "Our administration has worked tirelessly to help make this a reality and we can't thank them enough for all their efforts."
Next, the Hoosiers travel to West Lafayette for the Boilermaker Invitational April 10-11 before closing out the regular season April 24-25 at the Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio.
The Big Ten Championship will be played at Crooked Stick Golf Club April 30-May 2. NCAA Regionals will take place May 17-20 with the NCAA Finals May 29-June 3 in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Indiana returns its top three averages from last season in Mitch Davis (73.81), Ethan Shepherd (74.00) and Brock Ochsenreiter (74.13). In addition, head coach Mike Mayer brings in an impressive freshman class of Robbie Bender III, Clay Merchent and Drew Salyers. Last week, Davis, Merchent and junior Harry Reynolds were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors list.
