INDIANA MEN’S BASKETBALL: NOTES: Indiana Welcomes Rutgers on Sunday

OPENING TIP

Indiana University is in its 121st season of competition in men's basketball and opens the doors of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall for the 50th season. The Hoosiers will host Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. IU is coming off an 81-69 road win at No. 4 Iowa on Thursday night.

THE COACHES

Indiana Coach Archie Miller is in his fourth season of guiding the Cream and Crimson and is 64-49 with the Hoosiers and earned career win 200 against Penn State. He is 203-111 in nine+ years as a head coach, which includes six years at the University of Dayton. His Flyer teams made NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his last four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2014. Rutgers is led by Steve Pikiell who is in his 5th year and is 72-71.


JACKSON-DAVIS LIVING UP TO EXPECTATIONS

Sophomore forward Trayce Jackson-Davis ranks among B1G leaders in scoring, rebounds, field goal percentage and blocked shots. He has twice been named Big Ten Player of the Week. His most dominant performance this season was a 25-point, 17-rebound effort at Florida State. He had a career-high 31 points in the win over Stanford in the 3rd place game at Maui. He had 23 points at Iowa. He is a Preseason All-Big Ten pick and was just named to the Wooden Award Mid-season Watch List. He has had 17 career double-doubles. The Hoosiers are 14-3 when he reaches that milestone. He is averaging 20.6 points, 8.8 rebounds while shooting 54.2% from the floor and a team-high 27 blocks this season. He is the only Hoosier in the last 25 years to have 3 games of 25 points and 15 rebounds (at Minnesota, Nebraska). He is 4th in the nation FTs made (93) and leads in FT attempts (139). He is rated 3rd in the KenPom National Player of the Year rankings.


HOOSIER HISTORY

The 12-point win at Iowa is the largest road victory margin against an AP or Coaches Poll top-four team in program history. It was the Hoosiers first-ever road Top-4 win as an unranked team.


THE LAST 12 MINUTES AT IOWA

The Hoosiers outscored the Hawkeyes 37-16... IU shot 71.4% (10-14) from the field while limiting Iowa to 17.6% (3-14) accuracy from the floor in the same timeframe...


The Cream and Crimson made 3 of 4 from long distance, while the Black and

Gold was 1 of 6 from downtown...rebounds were even at 12 apiece... IU turned the ball over once, while Iowa had 5 giveaways...the Hoosiers made 14 of 20 from the line and senior Aljami Durham made 9 of 10 charity tosses.

IU tied its season-low with 8 turnovers and went more than 20 minutes in the game without a turnover. IU is averaging 8.3 turnovers in the last 3 games.
