(INDIANA RELEASE)
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana football program announced on Monday that offensive lineman Zach Carpenter will join the Hoosiers as a transfer from the University of Michigan. The 6-5, 329-pounder played in five of the Wolverines six games in 2020 as a redshirt freshman. "We are really excited to welcome Zach Carpenter as a part of our family," Indiana head football coach Tom Allen said. "He's a young man that we recruited heavily coming out of high school. We know his family well, we know him well, and we are happy for him to be able to join us. He has experience as a starter in the Big Ten and brings us high character, high work ethic and a lot of toughness." Carpenter earned starts at center in the last two contests in 2020 against Rutgers and Penn State. He did not see any game action in 2019, when he was named the team's Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year. The Cincinnati native was a three-star recruit out of Archbishop Moeller High School and was named the No. 15 offensive guard nationally and the No. 14 player in Ohio by Rivals. At Moeller, Carpenter blocked as part of an offensive line that amassed more than 2,300 yards of offense his senior year, including more than 120 rushing yards per game. He also helped Moeller go 21-for-27 in the red zone with 14 touchdowns and average nearly 25:00 in time of possession per game. Carpenter was named Division I OPSWA All-Ohio as a senior and Division I southwest all-district during his junior and senior campaigns after earning honorable mention as a sophomore. He was also a three-time All-GCL South honoree, and he was selected first-team All-Ohio by USA Today and first-team OPSWA DI All-Ohio his junior year.
