RICHMOND, Indiana – Earlham College women's volleyball made the most of its 2021 home debut with a pair of victories over visiting Mount St. Joseph University, on Saturday afternoon at Druley Performance Gym.
Earlham won the first match in straight sets, 25-22, 28-26, 25-19, and captured the second match in four, 25-19, 20-25, 25-23, and 25-18.
Match 1
Earlham hit a commanding .232 with 44 kills on 125 attacks to clinch the HCAC victory, aided by 6.0 team blocks and five service aces. Setter Erin Wagner ran the offense, finishing the match with 30 assists and three ball handling errors.
Giselle Mora paced Earlham with 12 kills, relatively evenly distributed across all three sets, on 18 swings with one error to hit .611 for the match. Sarah Dickman contributed 11 kills and turned up a team-leading 13 digs and charted three blocks.
Grace Young led Mount St. Joseph with 10 kills, with Addie Conley chipping in with nine terminations.
Match 2
Earlham again turned in a dominating hitting performance in the day's second match, posting a .253 attack percentage with 56 kills on 154 total attacks to outpace an MSJ squad that hit .200 for the match.
Maria Young led the Quakers in the non-conference portion of the twinbill with 15 kills on 32 attacks, hitting .312 for the match. Dickman charted 14 terminations on 37 swings, while Caroline Mulvihill amassed 10 kills on 21 error-free attacks for a .476 hitting percentage.
Dickman also sprawled for a team-high 19 digs.
Wagner logged 36 assists while guiding the Earlham offense, and was credited with 17 digs on defense. She also had two service aces in the match.
Grace Young again led Mount St. Joseph offensively with 13 kills, while Kyla Henderson and Addie Conley each charted 11 terminations.
Mount St. Joseph finished the match with 11 service aces, led by Brooke Aselage with four. Emily Abshire tallied four total blocks.
Earlham volleyball returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 2, when it hosts Defiance College for two matches. Match one of the series will start at 6:00 p.m.
