LEXINGTON, Kentucky – Earlham College women's volleyball played several neck-and-neck sets with defending Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Transylvania University on Wednesday night, before eventually dropping two matches to the Pioneers by 3-0 scores.

Match 1

Transylvania hit .132 for the match with 39 kills while holding Earlham to a .024 attack percentage with 28 terminations in the three-set victory in match #1. The Quakers' best showing came in the first set, when the Maroon and White hit .163 with 13 kills to outperform a Pioneer side that charted 12 kills with a .146 attack clip.

Outside hitter Sarah Dickman had a team-high seven kills on 33 swings but registered six errors to finish with a .030 hitting percentage. She also turned up 14 digs with one block assist.

First year Maria Young finished with six kills, while Giselle Mora tallied five terminations.

Transy's Madison Sweeney recorded 13 kills to lead the Pioneers, while Sylvie Miller posted eight kills and three block assists in the win.

Match 2

Earlham was again outhit by the host Pioneers in the night's second match, with Transy putting down 36 kills behind a .151 hitting percentage to Earlham's 34 terminations with a .111 attack clip. However the Quakers outhit the Pioneers in sets one and three, holding Transy to a mere .060 hitting percentage in the opening frame.

Dickman tallied 12 kills with Mora and Young chipping in with seven kills each. Erin Wagner logged 26 assists while running the Earlham offense, with Jennifer Shamel sprawling for 14 digs.

Sweeney paced Transy offensively in match two with 11 kills and two blocks, with Karrington Jackson putting together eight terminations and four total blocks.

Earlham volleyball makes its home debut on Saturday, Jan. 30, when it hosts Mount St. Joseph for two matches. Match one of the series will start at 1:00 p.m.
