INDIANAPOLIS – Butler led from start to finish on Wednesday afternoon to record a 58-40 victory over the visiting Georgetown Hoyas. The game opened with a 13-0 BU scoring run and excellent team defense the rest of the way would move the Bulldogs into the win column.
Genesis Parker ignited the Butler offense in the first quarter. The senior guard knocked down her first two 3-point field goal attempts and would later add a layup to net eight points over the opening 10 minutes. Parker finished the contest with a game-high 15 points while adding four rebounds and two steals.
Butler had three players in double figures for the third consecutive game. Okako Adika scored 13 points, pulled down eight rebounds, and dished out a team-high five assists. Micah Scheetz was involved offensively with 11 points and the 'Dawgs would get seven points, four assists and a team-best four steals for Upe Atosu.
Jaia Alexander rounded out the starting five unit for BU against the Hoyas. She scored five points and led the 'Dawgs in the rebound column with nine. Off the bench, Nyamer Diew scored four points and Tenley Dowell knocked down a triple.
Butler shut down Georgetown in the early stages of the game to open up a 14-point lead. GU shot 2-for-22 from the field in the first quarter. 12 of those 22 attempts were from 3-point range. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 39 percent from the field and held Georgetown to just 23 percent.
Butler turned defense into offense on multiple occasions on Wednesday inside Hinkle Fieldhouse. 19 Georgetown turnovers would result in 19 points for the home team.
Butler will take this momentum into a Sunday matinee at Seton Hall on Jan. 17. Two days later, the Bulldogs will face #2 UConn at 6:30 PM.
