(BALL STATE SI)
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State softball first-year head coach Lacy Wood is set to make her collegiate head coaching debut on Friday, Feb. 26 at the Southern Illinois Tournament according to the 56-game schedule announced today.
That is just one of the three pre-conference tournament the Cardinals are currently scheduled to compete in. Following the SIU Tournament (Feb. 26-28), the team is slated to travel to the Mississippi State Tournament (March 5-7) and the UAB Blazer Classic (March 11-13).
From there, Ball State will take part in a revamped Mid-American Conference schedule which will see the teams play eight four-game weekend series at one site, and a pair of midweek home-and-home doubleheaders versus the remaining two league opponents.
The Cardinals start MAC play by hosting Bowling Green (March 26-28) and will also battle Kent State (April 9-11), Ohio (April 23-25) and Toledo (April 30, May 1-2) in home series at the Softball Field at First Merchants Ballpark Complex.
Ball State's four weekend road series include Central Michigan (April 2-4), Akron (April 16-18), Western Michigan (May 7-9) and Buffalo (May 14-16).
The Cardinals' split midweek series are versus Miami (April 20 on the road / April 28th at home) and Northern Illinois (May 4 at home / May 12th on the road).
Ball State also has one non-conference midweek game currently on the schedule, an April 27 trip to Butler.
Another big change to the schedule is there will be no MAC Tournament this season, as the league's regular season champion will earn the MAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Regionals which begin May 21.
Please note that all game dates, times and locations are subject to change.
