It’s been a challenging season thus far for the Avon girls basketball team. They are 2 – 11 this season and now their head coach Corie West has been placed on administrative leave indefinitely.
Avon issued a statement saying West would not return to a coaching role for the remainder of this season.
“Our policy prohibits us from further commenting on personnel issues,” Avon’s statement read.
Avon athletic director Brad Holsinger has assigned an assistant coach to take over for the remainder of the season.
Several parents have expressed concerns, as have the players about West’s style of coaching and have cited in some cases allegations of racism and verbal abuse.
West began her coaching career at Avon in 2000 after four seasons at New Castle.
